Radon Tool Kit for Health Care Professionals

Welcome to our Radon Tool Kit - a quick and simple tool customized for health care professionals!  We have compiled information you may need to talk to your partners, patients and their families about radon and its effects on health.

As you may know, radon is a carcinogen that occurs naturally in soil from the degradation of uranium.  It seeps into homes through cracks in foundations and accumulates in the air.  Radon can not be detected through sight, smell or taste. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. As a public health professional/health care provider for children, you can help parents engage in actions to prevent cancer in themselves and their children.  The first step in conquering the effects of radon is testing for it.

The Radon Tool Kit is a guide for achieving that first crucial step.  Many people have not heard of radon and do not know if their home, school, child care center, or office is safe or not.  It is important that people know testing for radon is affordable and worth the effort in the long run.  This tool kit makes radon easier to understand and testing easier to access.

The Radon Tool Kit includes (click on the following links to download/print copies for your office):

  • Radon Fact Sheet - This guides you through what radon is to how it impacts children specifically.  It also contains a list of resources and websites.

  • FAQ for Radon - We know radon does not come up in the average well child visit, so this may provide some answers for you to share with your members, partners and patients.  You can keep this for yourself as a reference or copy and disseminate it to patients.

  • Coupon for a discounted radon test kit - Please give these to your members/patients!  You can also keep one to purchase a test kit for your office as well.

  • Resource Quick Sheet - This list of phone numbers and websites should also be provided to your members/patients in case they have additional questions or concerns.

Please contact us if you have any questions or comments!
