Mission Statement

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives from cancer, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education and service.
  • Geographic focus: national
  • Membership: 48 divisions nationwide, over 3 million volunteers
  • Other organizational activities (not directed specifically toward children): advocacy, education, grantmaking, lobbying, research, technical assistance, training
  • Children's Environmental Health Activities

ACS work focuses on children's issues when matters involving childhood cancer care or risk factors are involved. ACS works to limit the access that children have to tobacco. Comprehensive school health education is a particular priority for us, especially in teaching about tobacco and diet.
