The American Federation of Teachers is a union that represents K-12 teachers and other school employees, health care professionals and public employees. The union considers itself an advocacy organization for children and the public.

    The American Federation of Teachers does on- going technical assistance for members and leaders on the question of the school environment. The Federation has worked on indoor air quality, lead in schools, lead in drinking water, asbestos and radon exposure, pesticides, arts-and-crafts hazards, etc., and the Federation distributes alerts, fact sheets and materials from other organizations.
