/tr> This national non-profit organization is
dedicated to educating the public about the dangers of wood smoke, which
is,
according to some studies, more carcinogenic than second-hand tobacco
smoke.
Burning Issues is particulary concerned about the high levels of dioxins,
creosotes and micro particles that are released via wood smoke. There are
pages
of information on the health effects of the smoke (asthma, cancer, aging
of
skin), news articles, bibliographies, and scientific information. There
are also
suggestions on how to help reduce the amount of damage that other
peoples'
stoves cause, and links to related sites.
The site includes:
- an introduction to issues surrounding wood smoke
- a Children's Bill of Rights
- Burning Issues Fact Sheets
- Constituents of Wood Smoke from an EPA Study.
- Abstracts of some of the more significant papers on wood
burning
- Particulate Sources for sources of PM10 and PM-2.5 in the San
Francisco Bay
area.
- Bibliography of more than 300 Scientific papers.
- Information on the effect of a single burner.
- Information on Aerosol Science Activities
- Information on Tire Burning
