Registry: The Program tracks rates and trends with its registry-a database of medical and demographic information on children with birth defects. The Program monitors half the state's births, more than 275,000 every year. Scientific Studies: Large case-control studies are conducted to identify the causes of birth defects. Many studies use interviews with mothers and take biologic samples to study gene-environment interactions. Community Service: The Program communicates its findings directly to health professionals and the general public through reports, presentations at community meetings and the media. | |
