Mission Statement

 
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment protects the environmental health of children through childhood lead poisoning surveillance activities and a birth defects monitoring and prevention program.

    The Childhood Lead Poisoning Surveillance program performs data analysis and conducts surveys of populations at risk for high blood lead levels. The Birth Defects Monitoring program collects data and conducts statistical analyses to monitor the occurences of birth defects in the state of Colorado. Current prevention projects address fetal alcohol syndrome, developmental disabilities and neural tube defects.
