Mission Statement

 
The ecology center works for a just and healthy environment through grassroots organizing, advocacy, educations, and demonstration projects.

  • Geographic focus: Michigan
  • Membership: 2,000 individuals in southeast Michigan
  • Other organizational activities (not directed specifically toward children): advocacy, community research, education and organizing
    Major Programs:
  • GEE-WOW! environmental education program, reaching 10,000 K-12 students and teachers in southeast Michigan every year.
  • Environmental Health Project, uncovering the connections between environmental pollutions and human health.
  • Auto Project, promoting real-world solutions to reduce and eliminate pollution from automobile manufacturing.
  • Land Use, preserving farmland and natural areas, concentrate development where infrastructure exists, and reduce traffic congestion
  • Recycle Ann Arbor, a wholly-owned nonprofit subsidiary of the EC offering a variety of recycling and reuse services for households, businesses, and municipalities.

  • Children's Environmental Health Activities

     
    The Ecology Center offers a library, newsletter,, and expertise in the areas of solid waste, toxics, environmental health, land use, pollution prevention, emergency planning, the auto industry, hormone disruptors and environmental education. The Center also provides environmental curricula for children, such as videos and games, etc.
