Indiana Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (ICLPPP): In 1991, the Indiana State Department of Health was awarded a five-year grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to expand the childhood lead poisoning prevention program. This statewide, regionalized program provides screening services, laboratory analysis, data collection, medical case management and environmental follow-up to children ages six months to six years of age. The program includes education of parents and health care professionals throughout the state of Indiana with respect to the hazards of lead within the child's immediate environment. The ICLPPP has also developed policies and procedures followed by local County Health Departments for identifying children with lead poisoning. Public education is the primary form of intervention available in the State of Indiana. Many forms of educational publications and pamphlets are available to the public at no cost.

Since completion of the CDC grant, ICLPPP has been prioritizing "at risk" children for screening and has continued its efforts to incorporate lead screening into the health care system with additional financial commitments from local and state entities.
