Mission Statement

The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is to protect the public health and the people of Louisiana.

  • Geographic focus: Louisiana
  • Other organizational activities (not directed specifically toward children): advocacy, education, organizing, regulation, research, social services

  • Children's Environmental Health Activities

The impact of the environment on children is always included in decisions of the Office of Public Health. The Office has a very active environmental epidemiology and toxicology section, which works closely with the state's Department of Environmental Quality and supplies public health advice and consent in many environmental advisory and regulatory matters. In addition, as resources allow, special studies are undertaken, e.g., investigation of disease clusters among children, such as cancer and investigation of epidemiologic factors of illness following environmental insults of an acute nature, such as chemical plant releases affecting communities.
