Mission Statement

Lead Safe California is a non-profit, public interest organization dedicated to the prevention of childhood lead poisoning and the preservation of affordable, safe housing.

  • Geographic focus: California
  • No membership
  • Other organizational activities (not directed specifically toward children): advocacy, legislation/ordinances, lobbying, regulation

  • Children's Environmental Health Activities

In 1997, Lead Safe California is working with other public interest and private sector organizations on comprehensive statewide lead legislation to clarify standards of care for lead hazard identification and control. This legislation will build on policy developed by a task force of residential property owners and managers, tenants, children's health and environmental justice advocates, affordable housing developers, contractors, labor, insurers, lenders, realtors, environmental consultants and governmental agencies.

Lead Safe California also provides technical assistance to government, private sector and community-based organizations. Lead Safe California tracks local, state and federal lead laws and serves as a clearinghouse for legal, scientific and regulatory information.

Lead Safe California also makes presentations and works with public and private sector groups to increase awareness about the severity of the problem of childhood lead poisoning and the need to control lead hazards safely and cost- effectively.
