Mission Statement

The mission of Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides (NCAP) is to try to reduce substantially or eliminate the use of pesticides as a preferred method of pest control in the Northwest and elsewhere.

  • Geographic focus: Northwest United States
  • Membership: 1,800 organizations and individuals
  • Other organizational activities (not directed specifically toward children): education, grantmaking, lobbying, organizing, research

  • Children's Environmental Health Activities

NCAP has been involved with a local committee that developed and oversees the Eugene 4J School District's Landscape Integrated Pest Management Policy to minimize pesticide use. NCAP currently runs a School Pesticide Use Reduction Program, focused on Northwest schools, that is targeted to educating parents, teachers, students, community members, school administrators and maintenance workers about the hazards of pesticides in schools. Publications that we have authored include Getting Pesticides Out of Our Schools, Working Toward Pesticide-Free Schools and Learning About Pesticides at School: Project Ideas for High School or Middle School Classrooms or Student Environmental Clubs.
