Mission Statement

 
The National Center for Healthy Housing's mission has been to develop and promote practical methods to protect children from residential environmental hazards while preserving the Nation's supply of affordable housing.

  • Other organizational activities (not directed specifically toward children): advocacy, community research, education, research, technical assistance, training

    Current activities of the Center include:

    • Research and Evaluation

    • Project management

    • Convening health and housing, private, public, and non-profit sectors on housing related health issues

    • Education, training and technical assistance

    • Policy analysis

    • Evidence based policy
    • Information dissemination

    Past accomplishments of the Center include:

    • development of the Guidelines for the Evaluation and Control of Lead-Based Paint Hazards in Housing, published by HUD in July 1995

    • guidance for cities, states and municipalities seeking to integrate lead-based paint issues into their Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategies

    • development of the curriculum for the training of Lead Hazard Risk Assessors

    • chairmanship of the HUD Task Force on Lead-Based Paint Reduction and Financing and its committees by Center Board of Director members and staff
