| Conducted
1988-94
This is the third in a series of data collection programs carried out by
the
NCHS in order to obtain health and nutrition data on the population of
the
United States. (NHANES I took place in 1971-74, NHANES II in 1976-80.)
Data were
collected via physical examinations and clinical and laboratory tests.
Prevalence data were collected for specific diseases and health
conditions. This
is the only national data collection program that has documented such
variables
as blood lead levels, serum cotinine levels, etc., so it is a unique
resource
for biomarkers of environmental exposures. However, as yet there are few
published reports from this survey. |
