Mission Statement

 
The mission of the Child and Adolescent Health Program is to promote optimum health and development of the children of New Jersey through the promotion of preventive services, linkages with primary medical care and healthy physical and psychosocial environments.

The mission of the Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Services is to protect the public health from environmental hazards through the inspection and health assessment of youth camps, recreational bathing areas, sites undergoing lead and asbestos abatement, hazardous waste sites, public drinking water supplies and retail and wholesale food establishments.

    Child and Adolescent Health Program: This office has the principal responsibility for policy, regulation, surveillance and public information related to lead poisoning in children. It also provides funding for local childhood lead poisoning prevention activities to 13 local health departments in target areas of the state.

    Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Services: The Division's public health practitioners set policy on protecting the public (with emphasis on children) from hazards associated with environmental exposures. The Division also conducts aggressive year-round oversight of the private sector industries which service children's need for food, potable water, quality indoor air, youth camp safety and recreational bathing. The results of our work and recommendations for protecting the public's health are conveyed through advisories, bulletins and reports.
