The Right-to-Know Network

URL: http://www.rtk.net/

The Right-to-Know Network (RTK NET) was established to empower citizen involvement in community and government decision-making. RTK NET provides free access to databases, documents, and conferences on the environment, housing, and sustainable development. From information on RTK NET, you can identify specific factories and their environmental effects; analyze reinvestment by banks in their communities; and assess the people and communities affected.

RTK NET offers the following:
  • Databases: We let you access government databases that you can search for free. We continuously add and update our databases on the environment and housing.

  • Technical Support: We provide a user manual and other materials to help you use our databases. These materials are available online under documents and help.

  • Training: RTK NET staff conduct training sessions around the country at a variety of venues to help people learn how to find data and understand it.
RTK NET started in 1989 in support of the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), which mandated public access to the Toxic Release Inventory. RTK NET is funded by several foundations and government agencies and operated by two nonprofit organizations: OMB Watch and The Unison Institute.
