Mission Statement

The United States Public Interest Research Group (USPIRG) is the national lobbying office for state PIRGS-nonpartisan, nonprofit environmental and consumer advocacy organizations active in more than 30 states. USPIRG combines the expertise of a professional staff with the energy, political voice and financial support of more than one million members to win reforms for a clean environment, consumer rights and a government accountable to the people.

  • Geographic focus: national
  • Membership: 1 million citizens and students

  • Children's Environmental Health Activities

We are advocating the passage of the Children's Environmental Protection and Right to Know Act of 1997, requiring companies to provide adequate warnings about the presence of hazardous toxic chemicals in children's products and revising the reporting thresholds, particularly for developing children, for extremely hazardous substances such as dioxins and mercury.
